Green Crack

Yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, this strain really is named ‘Green Crack’. A high grade genetic wonder by MSNL, this is one fantastic plant that offers the kind of powerful high and sublime flavour that will keep you coming back for more and more. These qualities are what led to the strain earning its controversial name, given to it by none other than the legendary cannabis connoisseur, Snoop Dogg, to emphasise its strength and moreish qualities.

Thankfully the unconventional name is where any raised eyebrows should end, as Green Crack is primarily a fine example of top quality bud that just seems to do everything right. Birthed from crossing an original Sensi Skunk #1 with an unidentified indica from California, few other strains can beat the quality and power of MSNL’S Green Crack.

Strength

Green Crack

The ‘crack’ reference was certainly inspired largely from the strength and effect of the strain, with its 18-21% average THC level effortlessly taking you into the stratosphere. Genetically it is a fairly balanced hybrid, sporting a 60% sativa and 40% indica split that offers plenty both mentally and physically.

However, the whole experience definitely leaves one with the impression that this is firmly sativa dominant. The ride begins quickly with a near-instant head rush that will leave your face tingling as you begin your ascent. Repeat lungfuls will see you rise higher and higher before the indica side of the plant becomes apparent, warmly consuming your body with waves of relaxing physical bliss.
If this sounds good then you’re in luck, because a few drags on Green Crack can see you occupied for hours. This strain really is as long-lasting as it is powerful, with its energetic and powerfully uplifting sativa side mingling with the sedative indica for an all-consuming and highly satisfying experience. This makes it ideal for both daytime and evening use, its effects stimulating enough to prepare you for the day ahead.

Medically its properties make it useful for a wide range of ailments. Its energetic side can wash away fatigue and lethargy while its relaxing nature makes it useful for overcoming insomnia. Alongside this are the usual conditions that cannabis can help with, including stress, anxiety and aches and pains.

Yield

Green Crack is one strain that loves the outdoors, rewarding those putting in the effort to grow outside with bigger and richer yields. Doing so may net you 35-106oz per plant while an indoor harvest will see you getting around 10-15oz per yd2. Even if you can only manage an indoor growing setup, however, you may find Green Crack irresistible enough to grow regardless.

Speed

Green Crack

Showing the best of its skunk genetics, Green Crack grows quick and dense. It is not such a demanding strain if the right conditions are met, and may even be suitable for newbie growers. In its swift eight to ten week flowering time the plant will develop thick stems that are lined with heavy buds. Also demonstrating its sativa-dominant genetics, the plant will generally grow to a boldly sized 100-180cm with some plants even exceeding 4m in height outdoors.

Indoor growing is a feasible option, though a few precautions should be taken. Firstly, the strain is sometimes susceptible to mould, meaning good air circulation through fans or ventilation is necessary. Secondly it can produce quite a strong odour in its growing stages, so measures may need to be taken if housemates or neighbours will object to them being there.

Outdoors the plant really thrives, growing higher, yielding more, and giving a better quality of crop. To get this, however, the plant will need to be grown somewhere with plenty of natural light and a consistently warm climate. Outside too you will find the plant emitting quite a strong odour, so it may not be suitable for everybody’s circumstances. The plant has a short flowering period, however, and those that can meet its requirements will see Green Crack rewarding them with their harvest late September.

Taste

As well as its previously mentioned qualities, Green Crack earned its name from its moreish flavour too. It exhibits a deep fruity taste with a soft sweetness to it, with notes of mango maturing into more complex flavours as the bud matures. These include hints of spice and an earthy pine taste that make this taste experience so much more complex and satisfying.

Bag Appeal

Green Crack

Similar to the taste, much of the joy in Green Crack comes from its equally delicious smell that reflects the complexity and sweetness of the flavour. As the sweetness and mouth-watering fruity sharpness combine, the odour of the growing stages suddenly becomes worth the inconvenience. This matches its alluring bright green nugs that grow thick and dense, providing the kind of tactile experience that lets you know good times are nearby. This all adds up to creating a strain that lives up to its name and makes Green Crack one phenomenal genetic wonder.

Girl Scout Cookies

From the verdant Californian valleys comes this summery blast of excellence courtesy of the high-grade seed bank, MSNL. Girl Scout Cookies has risen up the food chain of commercially available strains to become the apex smoke of choice for countless weed aficionados across the world. Boasting the kind of genetic quality that puts lesser strains to shame, Girl Scout Cookies is the result of crossing a mystery Durban Poison with Cherry Kush and a Floridian east coast OG Kush.

What we get is an indica dominant beauty with the kind of flavour and high that makes it a natural winner. You may be able to get cheaper strains, but it doesn’t get much better than this and Girl Scout Cookies has the Cannabis Cup awards to prove it.

Strength

Girl Scout Cookies

For all its recent popularity, Girl Scout Cookies does not pull any punches in its strength for the sake of accessibility. With an average THC level of 19-25%, Girl Scout Cookies takes no prisoners yet still retains its widespread appeal. The high begins with a cerebral rush courtesy of its Durban parent that comes on quick and hard, leading to an initial rush of mental activity before settling into a relaxing and soothing calm euphoria. This mental component of the experience makes it ideal for aiding concentration and may even assist you in completing work or projects.

This is followed by the kush heritage of Girl Scout Cookies making itself known through its body-numbing sedative stone. If the high can potentially aid with getting work done, then the subsequent stone will help you relax the rest of the night after. This de-stressing component is also what makes it such a fantastic medical strain, helping with anxiety, stress, depression, and lulling you into a deep and satisfying sleep when needed. Its hefty strength also makes it ideal for more physical complaints such as migraines and chronic pain, as well as helping overcome appetite loss.
For all its positive sides and usefulness, however, it should be remembered that Girl Scout Cookies is one THC packed strain, and as such should be treated with respect and moderation while being enjoyed.

Yield

Girl Scout Cookies doesn’t casually lavish its grower with a small mountain of bud as some other strains do. This is one plant that knows its value and will yield respectable volumes when properly cared for. The emphasis here is on quality rather than quantity, and a properly cultivated plant will yield 250-300g per m2, or 60g per plant.

Speed

Girl Scout Cookies

Growing Girl Scout Cookies should not present too much of a problem for anybody with a little experience, and may even be suitable for a newbie with a bit of diligence. They can be grown indoors or outside, their bright green leaves contrasting with the purple hued bud to make a very visually appealing plant.

Indoors, Girl Scout Cookies will grow well in a hydroponic setup, though the Sea of Green (SoG) growing method can also be used. To get the best results though it is generally recommended the plant be allowed to stretch which, if allowed, can substantially increase your harvest. Its hardy genetics mean it is extraordinarily resistant to mould and mildew, giving you one more reason to invest your time in this fantastic strain. Its flowering time is 65-75 days, keeping under 100cm even when fully grown to make a manageable medium sized plant.

Outdoors Girl Scout Cookies fares slightly differently. Its pest-resistant genes certainly help ease the cultivation process, but it is a little more particular than certain other strains before it will reward you with a generous yield. Girl Scout Cookies prefers warmth and sunshine, ideally in a Mediterranean-style climate. If this is not possible in your area then an indoor setup may be more practical. It can also benefit from the use of a trellis, though it is not strictly necessary for most plants. Harvests will be available up to mid-October, coming after 9 – 10 weeks of growth provided the plant was exposed to the right conditions.

Taste

True to its name, Girl Scout Cookies boasts one of the most delectable tastes you will find in any strain. A rich blend of sweet flavours akin to candyfloss and brown sugar dominate the taste, laying a thick base of decadent richness from which hints of spice and mint emerge. Also buried in the mix are nutmeg and the cookie notes from which the strain takes its name.

Without doubt Girl Scout Cookies packs one distinctive flavour, one so memorable that few who try it can fail to recognise it again.

Bag Appeal

Girl Scout Cookies

Girl Scout Cookies certainly owes much of it visual appeal to its OG Kush heritage, often sporting the beautiful blue colouring that can develop when the plant is exposed to slightly cooler climates as it grows. The buds are thick and dense, with the kind of frosty trichome covering that sits so well atop the coloured nugs. With a scent as delicious and complex as the taste and a stickiness that will entice any regular smoker, it doesn’t take long to understand why Girl Scout Cookies has settled comfortably into being one of the top strains around.

candy-kush-express-marijuana

Candy Kush Express

All aboard the Candy Kush Express for some great tasting, blues busting, easy-growing marijuana. This strain is about as beginner friendly as you can get without actually being autoflowering, but it has plenty to offer everyone and is undoubtedly going to become a popular favourite.

Strength

Candy Kush Express

With a THC level in the mid-to-high teens, Candy Kush Express is strong enough to deliver fast-acting and effective pain relief as well as to boost your mood when you’re down. It does, however, stay comfortably within the realms of “gentle, creative lift”, rather than the “rocket fuel” of the real, high-THC strains. Once the THC has done its work, the CBD takes over and provides a long-lasting solution to both mental and physical issues. The effect is light enough that Candy Kush Express could feasibly be used in the daytime. You’d have to ensure that you left yourself plenty of time before doing anything complicated (like driving) but it would, certainly be an option. Alternatively you could keep this strain for the evening and use its “double-action” approach to deal with any pain or emotional issues which are stopping you from sleeping and then let the full-body stone which follows settle you comfortably, ready for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Yield

Assuming you leave your plants to develop to their full height, indoor yield will be in the region of 475 – 525 gr/m2, outdoor yield is likely to be around 450 – 500 gr/plant. Full height means up to about a metre indoors (although it can be much less than this) and up to two metres outdoors. In both cases, plant training can be used to keep the height down, but it will probably mean compromising on yield.

Speed

Candy Kush Express

Candy Kush Express finishes in a prompt eight weeks indoors and is ready by early September out of doors, which means that outdoor growers in all but the worst of climates should find this strain a feasible choice.

In addition to being quick, Candy Kush Express is also robust and straightforward to grow. As long as growers can manage the basics of ventilation, water and food, you should be good to collect a decent harvest. Odour is moderate, so although odour control is always a good idea, it should be much less of an issue than with some other strains.

Taste

If the name leaves you worried about this strain being overly sweet and cloying, then you can relax. Candy Kush Express’ immediate parents are Sweet Special and Royal Kush. Sweet Special is a hybrid of Grapefruit, Hawgsbreath and Cream Caramel Auto while Royal Kush is a hybrid of Afghanistan and Skunk #1, so there’s a balance of sweet flavours (Grapefruit and Cream Caramel Auto) with earthier ones (Hawgsbreath, Afghanistan and Skunk #1) and a delicious hint of cheese (Hawgsbreath). All in all, this is like eating a hearty fruit-and-cheese board.

Bag Appeal

Candy Kush Express

Candy Kush Express isn’t much to look at but it handles nicely. Nuggets are dense and chunky but split open without any hassle, releasing that lovely aroma of fruit and cheese.

While this strain is on the sweeter side over all, it’s a whole lot less “candy sweet” than the name suggests. It has rich, complex, satisfying flavours and a mouth-watering aroma. Put this together with the fact that it’s easy to grow and medically effective and it’s clear that this strain is a winner.

mango-skunk-marijuana-strain

Mango Skunk

Nirvana has been around since the 1980s but thankfully has grasped the need to move with the times and develop strains which address the needs and wants of modern patients. These days what many people want is a medicine which delivers effective results in a pleasant-tasting, easy-to-grow package and Mango Skunk delivers on all counts.

Strength

Mango Skunk

This is one of the many “new-school” strains, which offers a decent level of THC together with plenty of CBD for a real all-around package. The THC level tends to be around the 15% to 20% mark, while the CBD content is usually in the region of 1% to 5%. This is in line with a widespread modern preference for “all-round” strains, which offer the flexibility to be used for a variety of conditions, rather than “pure THC” or “pure CBD strains”.

Strains like Mango Skunk are perfect for situations where you want a combination of quick action and long-lasting benefits. For example, if you suffer from tension headaches, your immediate need is for fast and effective pain relief to stop the pain before it starts to cripple you. That’s the THC. You then want help to deal with the issues which caused the tension headache in the first place. That’s the moderate level of CBD, which will gently insist that you slow down and relax and take it easy for a while until you’re ready to face the world again. This approach can also be very effective when it comes to other sorts of pain, since dealing with pain often requires some level of rest and with today’s busy lifestyles, people can feel under pressure to get going again as soon as they feel able, rather than getting the full amount of rest needed by body and mind.

Yield

Mango Skunk offers decent yields in the region of 450-500 g/m². There are certainly bigger-yielding strains out there, but viewed as part of an all-round package, i.e. taking taste, effect and ease of growth into consideration, this has to be viewed as a reasonable return.

Speed

Mango Skunk

Mango Skunk needs nine to eleven weeks to reach its full glory, depending on which particular version of it you have. Basically there are three different versions of Mango Skunk, all of which are Indica dominant and have much the same characteristics. Two of them look like classic Indicas, with their characteristic “Christmas tree” shape, the third shows more of the Sativa influences and is rather taller and lankier and hence tends to take a bit longer to grow. Having said that, while this third variation may go over a metre if left untrained, it’s only going to be by a small amount, perhaps 10 centimetres or so, while the other two variations are unlikely to reach much higher than half a metre. In both cases, plant training will help to keep the height down.

Overall, this is a very beginner-friendly strain. If you can stay on top of the basic needs of ventilation, water and nourishment, you should have no problems with Mango Skunk. A less obvious advantage of this strain is that it has a very discrete odour, so if you’re only growing one or two plants you should have minimal odour-control issues.

Taste

Once you actually start to use this strain, you’ll soon begin to appreciate why it’s seen as a connoisseur’s variety. It’s like eating a luscious tropical fruit salad (full of mango of course), with cream and a slight touch of earthy spiciness, some people say cinnamon. The scent reflects the flavour. Although the aroma is discrete, it’s utterly delicious with the sweetness of fruit and the richness of cream, nicely counterbalanced by earth undertones, which prevent it from becoming cloying.

Bag Appeal

Mango Skunk

To be perfectly honest, Mango Skunk is nothing particularly special to look at, although there’s nothing wrong with it and the chunky nuggets certainly inspire confidence. As soon as you break those nuggets open, however, that mouth-watering perfume is released.

Whether or not Mango Skunk is the right strain for you depends on what you want. While the yield is reasonable, there are plenty of strains out there which can offer either bigger yields or the same sort of yield in less grow time. If, however, your priority is to grow a really effective and great-tasting weed, then Mango Skunk has to be a real contender.

g13-haze-admin

G13 Haze

While the origins of G13 are lost in the mists (or myths) of time, the origins of G13 Haze by Barney’s Farm date back to 2002 (or 1999 if you take them back to the time Barney’s Farm started working to stabilize their own version of the original G13). In 2007 it clearly established its own unique credentials by taking first prize in the prestigious High Times Cannabis Cup.

Strength

G13 Haze

With 22% THC, G13 Haze qualifies as a high-THC strain even these days. As such it will pummel even the most severe of conditions into submission. Use it for arthritis, serious migraines, PTSD or basically any condition where you need fast and powerful pain relief or a way to alleviate severe emotional conditions such as depression. Even though G13 Haze is very much Sativa dominant, that touch of Indica means that the overall effect ends on a smooth, gentle note, a very light, relaxing stone, which leaves patients refreshed, clear-headed and ready to face the world without bringing on a serious case of couch-lock. Because of this, even though G13 Haze is very much a daytime strain, it could feasibly be used towards evening time without taking away any chance of you being able to get to sleep, although it’s definitely not a strain we’d recommend for dealing with insomnia.

Yield

G13 Haze offers yields of up to 550 g/m2, which is very respectable for a such a compact strain. Even though it is almost purely Sativa, G13 Haze keeps its head down to about a metre indoors and a little more outdoors. As always, there is the option to use plant training to keep the height down even more.

Speed

G13 Haze

G13 Haze takes a bit longer to develop than many modern strains, flowering in nine to ten weeks (or mid October outdoors). The good news is that the addition of landrace genetics was arguably a stroke of genius on the part of Barney’s Farm. Landrace strains are known and prized for their robustness, which they bring to any human-bred strains with which they are crossed. This means that G13 Haze is a great choice for anyone new to gardening and will please even experienced gardeners with its compactness and yields. Just remember to ensure appropriate ventilation and pay attention to odour control.

Taste

The taste of G13 Haze is very similar to that of the original G13, it’s fruity, spicy and herbal with clear touches of sage and mint. We’d say that that this is a strain for people who prefer their medication on the sweeter side, but still with plenty of freshness. The aroma is what you’d expect from the description of the taste, some people have suggested it has hints of pine and citrus. Overall we’d say if you’re sharing a home with people who don’t particularly want the smell of marijuana all over the place then this would be a good choice in that you can enjoy it while you’re taking your medication and then clear it out of the air relatively easily afterwards, particularly if you use a vaporizer and place some bowls of bicarbonate of soda in the room where you are taking your medication.

Bag Appeal

G13 Haze can vary from a fairly pale green to a moderately bright green and in our view the latter is particularly appealing since it makes the orange flecks stand out more. Whatever the shade of greed, you get nice, solid, nuggets with that wonderful G13 scent.
Even established classics like G13 can benefit from being updated. G13 Haze is everything we loved about the original G13 with the addition of landrace genetics for an even easier grow. We love it.
