Strawberry Diesel

Born from the inventive pairing of NYC Diesel and Strawberry Cough (both well-respected strains in their own right), Strawberry Diesel makes for a genetic wonder that is more than the sum of its parts.

This well-balanced hybrid had high expectations placed on it from the beginning. NYC Diesel has won five High Times Cannabis Cup awards over the years whilst Strawberry Cough was named as one of the strains of the year in 2005. Luckily, Strawberry Diesel did not disappoint, becoming a modern classic due to its sheer quality alone.

Strength

Strawberry Diesel

The first thing that should be mentioned about Strawberry Diesel is its THC content, which averages around 20%-24% but has been measured as high as 27%. This suggests that less experienced smokers should exercise a degree of caution, but also means that veteran cannabis aficionados can take themselves on the kind of ride that often eludes those with high tolerances.

Its 50/50 split of indica and sativa combined with its strength means you will experience a wide range of sensations, all rather strongly! It begins with a quick mental onset courtesy of its sativa element, rushing in with a level of force you will only rarely experience. This soaring head-high will cleanse your mind of much accumulated emotional debris and stress, keeping you mentally alert yet clear headed and relaxed for hours on end. This mental component also brings with it a feeling of positivity, lifting your spirits and bringing an enjoyable energy.

As this settles into a steady elation the physical side of the strain begins its ascent. This ultimately balances with the head high to make for a very satisfying overall sensation. The muscle relaxing effects go deep and hard, with Strawberry Diesel having serious couchlock tendencies when consumed at higher quantities. Enjoyed in moderation, however, the strain can provide a very functional clear-minded focus and even a degree of physical energy, potentially making it ideal for use at any time of day. Experienced cannabis fans may even find this the ideal wake-and-bake strain.

The strength and multifaceted effects of Strawberry Diesel make it an ideal choice for medicinal use too, especially when you consider many users remain functional even after moderate consumption. Despite its low CBD level of under 1%, Strawberry Diesel can be used to tackle a wide range of medical problems, including stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and even Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). More physical complaints that it can assist with include loss of appetite, muscular pain, headaches, and nausea.

Yield

Strawberry Diesel

Strawberry Diesel may not be the biggest yielder but it can still produce respectable volumes that often reach above average levels. A well-looked after indoor grow will net you 12-14oz per m2 while a successful outdoor harvest will reward you with 14oz per plant or potentially even more.

Speed

Strawberry Diesel is one plant that is better kept indoors. The strain simply reacts better to an inside environment, with growers better able to limit the plant’s exposure to the pests, diseases, and mould it is especially susceptible to. It is still advised, however, to keep a close eye on the plant for these problems, pruning any yellowing leaves and removing any pests found by hand.

The plant will take 9 to 10 weeks to flower and should grow between 75cm and 100cm when grown indoors. If the plant stays inside you will see it grow boldly, sprouting many side stems which should be trimmed to keep everything under control.

Outdoor growth, whilst not recommended over indoor growing, is possible. The plant will require a warm sunny climate such as a typically Mediterranean environment, although it can also do well in a greenhouse. The outdoors seems to spur some extra inches out of Strawberry Diesel and those growing outside can expect it to reach a greater stature, though still small enough for an easy stealth operation. The harvest will come in October for those growing in the northern hemisphere, and some recommend planting eight weeks before this to better replicate the Mediterranean climate it enjoys best.

Taste

Strawberry Diesel

As mentioned at the outset, Strawberry Diesel takes its name from the ‘Strawberry’ and ‘Diesel’ in its parent strains, giving a strong clue to its taste profile. Strawberry Diesel tastes like a fresh strawberry, sweet and a bit citrusy, with a richness that is accompanied by a thick diesel component. These two seemingly oddly matched flavours combine to create a taste that is to be savoured and enjoyed.

Bag Appeal

If the strawberry element of the strain was the most distinctive part of the flavour, then it is its diesel side that is most characteristic in the scent. The fruitier strawberry notes are of course there too, alongside a pungent earthiness that makes it irresistible to breath in with a smile.

The buds are green with splashes of deep purple, accompanied by dashes of orange hair across the surface. The motley collection of colours is finished with a dusting of trichomes that nicely completes this visual treat

Amnesia

Birthed in the mid 90’s in California before being taken to the Netherlands, Amnesia began its global ascent shortly after being made available to the public.
Originally coming from a mix of Jamaican landrace and South Asian plants, Amnesia now holds the distinction of joining the small group of strains that can be consistently found in coffeeshops and dispensaries wherever they be. With that in mind, it’s worth taking a closer look at this modern classic to see what the hype is all about.

Strength

Amnesia

Amnesia is a sativa dominant strain, being roughly 70% sativa and 30% indica. With a strength that varies from plant to plant it can be difficult to gauge just how Amnesia will treat you, though its THC level has been reported as being as high as 24% in some.

Being so strong whilst having sativa dominant genetics means Amnesia offers a very different experience to your typical couchlock strain. The effects of Amnesia are uplifting and energetic, and staying in one spot for the evening is out of the question. Many find their mind racing as the thought provoking elements of Amnesia becomes apparent, combining with the euphoric side of it to make a very mentally engaging ride.

Despite this it still keeps you relaxed, though inaction may see you start fidgeting somewhat as the strain’s effects make it necessary to keep stimulated. It makes for a great smoke to be enjoyed even in the daytime provided you have no pressing appointments, keeping you active and picking up your mood with ease. There is still an indica component in the mix, however, and as the high progresses you will start to feel its gently calming stone.

It should be mentioned at this point that Amnesia may not be the best strain for newcomers. Its high THC content and strong mental effects can make it unsuitable for those without a degree of experience in cannabis consumption. Some who do try Amnesia even report missing memories of the experience, making its name all the more appropriate.

Of course such strong effects can prove very useful for a range of ailments. It’s great for overcoming lethargy and providing energy, levelling out your emotional state if you experience mood disorders, and assisting with the usual problems medical marijuana is recommended for such as anxiety, chronic pain, and stress.

It is the combination of all these elements that have led many to conclude that Amnesia provides one of the best highs available in the world of cannabis. The effects are frequently described as being incomparable to any other strain, providing a sublime high that is all its own. For those prepared to smoke in moderation, Amnesia is a truly great strain to smoke with friends.

Yield

Amnesia

The yields that Amnesia provides are as weighty as its high, offering 600g per m2 when grown indoors and a possible 1200g per plant when grown outside in the right conditions. Grow one of these plants successfully and you may suddenly find yourself very popular.

Speed

Being a strong sativa, Amnesia will grow as tall as you would expect, with some of the larger varieties reaching up to 3.5m. It is not, however, typically sativa in its growth time, taking only 9 to 10 weeks to flower fully with others taking up to 16 weeks.

If you have the vertical space to grow Amnesia indoors then you will likely have a good time doing so. Amnesia is not an overly demanding plant, having a relatively short flowering time, being very pest and disease resistant, and also responding well to the Sea of Green (SoG) growing method. It is no glutton for nutrients either, preferring to be fed less rather than more to get the best tasting bud possible.

Should your living circumstances allow enough privacy for an outdoor grow, Amnesia will require a temperate Mediterranean climate or a greenhouse. This makes it better suited to southern latitudes rather than the colder north, as they do need protection from the chill that frequently descends in such climates. An outdoor harvest will come at the end of October.

Taste

Amnesia

Amnesia is well known for its incredible taste. The strain mixes earthy flavours with citrusy notes of lemon and orange. Alongside this are such exotic elements as incense, spices, cedar wood and a definite Haze-y presence. The result is a sweet and sour mix that has earned the adoration of countless weed fanatics out there.

Bag Appeal

The aroma of the strain is not dissimilar to its taste, being sweetly fruity and with a rich earthy base to it. The buds are a mixture of lime and dark green in appearance, with countless protruding flecks of hair and trichomes mixed along the surface of it. As if this wasn’t enough, the buds are also soaked in a thick irresistible resin coating.

Twisted Sister

Nothing to do with the band (as far as we know), Twisted Sister is a great-tasting, heavy-yielding Indica dominant, which is robust enough to survive pretty much anything a beginner can do but will still satisfy more serious growers.

Strength

Twisted Sister

Forum Genetics hasn’t released details on the THC content, but based on genetics and effect, we’d hazard a guess that it was in the region of 18% to 20%. One of the many interesting points about Twisted Sister is that it works the opposite way to every other type of marijuana. In other words, it starts with a gentle, comfortable, stone and then brings on an energetic, cerebral high to bring you back into the world before it fades out. Hence this is the absolutely last strain you want to use for insomnia, but it’s pretty good for just about anything else. Even though you’ll feel ready for anything after using Twisted Sister, remember to give yourself a decent amount of time to recover before you do anything complicated, like driving.

Yield

Twisted Sister

Give Twisted Sister a reasonable amount of care and attention and you can harvest about 550g/m2. Do anything short of taking a chainsaw to this strain and you can still expect to harvest something. For all her Indica genetics, Twisted Sister is still a tall girl, she can easily reach two metres out of doors. Indoors, plant training can help to keep her height down somewhat but you’re still going to need to think about vertical space. Ventilation is your other major consideration since about the only realistic way you are likely to damage this strain is by letting mould take hold. Odour control isn’t technically necessary in terms of gathering your harvest, but it will probably help to keep you on good terms with your neighbours. Remember that a big girl like this is going to have a big appetite, so be ready to bring on the food, Twisted Sister can actually survive a bit of overfeeding, although obviously if you spot any signs of your plant looking out of order, then it’s time to investigate (there’s plenty of help on the net) and, if need be, reduce the rations, but overall, if you’re a beginner still learning the ropes, then err on the side of overfeeding this strain, rather than starving it.

Speed

Twisted Sister will need about 9 to 10 weeks indoors and will be ready about the middle of October outdoors. This means that, realistically, outdoor growing will only be an option for those in the warmest of climates.

Taste

Top notes are of citrus lemon and pine, base notes are quite sour, not really diesel, but certainly enough to give a decent amount of body and substance.

Bag Appeal

Twisted Sister

Twisted Sister looks good in the grow room and looks good to very good in the bag. Genetically, this is a cross between McGreen and McPurple, which means that it can be turned purple (blue) if the grower so wishes. Either way, growers will get plenty of frosty trichomes, covering heavy, dense, sticky nugs. Start to crumble them and you’ll release the citrus and pine fragrance, which is worth breathing in just on its own.

At this point in time, if you mention the words “Twisted Sister”, then unless you’re speaking to a real marijuana connoisseur, your listener will probably assume that you are talking about the band and that’s a shame because this strain really does have a lot to offer. We think its taste and smell should appeal to most people and, medically speaking, this is another good all-rounder, which could help a range of conditions.

bud shot of blue dream strain

Blue Dream Strain Review

Proudly holding its place among the top Californian strains out there, Blue Dream currently commands a hefty price tag in its home state. Rising through the ranks with ease, Blue Dream is the result of crossing a Blueberry with Super Silver Haze – both incredibly popular strains individually that have also won numerous High Times Cannabis Cup awards.
The result is one spectacular strain that mixes the best of its sativa and indica heritage to create the kind of quality that has seen it become one of the top dogs in commercially available cannabis today.

Strength

Blue Dream

For all the hype and demand, Blue Dream could simply not maintain such a reputation without providing the goods to back it up. True to this, Blue Dream is a fantastic smoke, sativa dominant (60%) from the Super Silver Haze with its Blueberry indica side making up the rest (40%). This quality is due to its genetic heritage and also its 17-18% THC level, giving you a great high that packs quite the punch too.
When smoked the effects begin quickly, a cerebral rush that buzzes behind the face as your eyes and cheeks feel a tingling sensation. Once this buzz has settled into a soft mental stimulation the physical effects begin, slowly enveloping you from head to toe in its warm consuming stone. This gives the usual deep relaxation typical of any quality indica, but with an uncommon sense of warmth and wellbeing that accompanies it.

This is no ordinary strain, however, and those trying it will notice they remain clear headed, with their thoughts being more well-grounded than usual after smoking. Neither does the indica component tie you down with couch lock, offering manageable sedation as long as moderate quantities are enjoyed. This all comes together to make Blue Dream a very functional strain to enjoy, allowing you both mental stimulation and physical relaxation that may even aid motivation.

The sizeable THC quantities and minimal interference with daily life offered by this strain makes it a natural choice for medicinal smokers. These qualities allow the smoker to remain active and productive while the strain helps them through their day. Suitable even as a daytime remedy, Blue Dream is useful for treating insomnia, stress, anxiety, depression and headaches. There is even some evidence suggesting its utility in easing menstrual cramps and other related ailments.

Yield

Blue Dream is the gift that just keeps on giving, offering very generous weighty yields to growers that will make it appealing for commercial growth and personal users alike. A healthy plant should yield as much as 600g per m2, and the strain is known for the consistency in the size of its harvests too.

Speed

Blue Dream

As a sativa dominant plant, Blue Dream will grow to a sizeable medium height. There are certain phenotypes that may exhibit the strain’s indica heritage more prominently, but generally Blue Dream will proudly display its sativa side through its size and shape.

Those with experience of Blue Dream generally report that it is more easily grown indoors, and this will be the most advisable environment for many growers to attempt. It is a fairly easy plant to grow, though attentiveness is required at times. If growing indoors it is best to do so in a soil or hydroponic setup, and pruning is advisable to keep the plant’s height and size manageable. Blue Dream will offer some assistance though, with its genetics making it very resilient to mildew. Its flowering time will be around 9-10 weeks.

Outdoor growth may also be a feasible option to those living with the right climate and privacy. The strain really needs a warmer Mediterranean or sub-tropical environment to thrive, and even then needs to be monitored for signs of red spider mite infestation. It is therefore advised to those wanting to grow in cooler northern lands to stick to indoor cultivation. If you do end up growing outside, however, harvest time will be in October.

Taste

Blue Dream is the result of crossing two strains that are known for their enticing flavour, so it is hardly surprising that the strain has a certain degree of expectation concerning its taste. Taking a rich lungful will swiftly reveal its Blueberry heritage, which is especially evident when the bud is cured for a month or so.

While primarily sweet and berry-like in its composition, there are also satisfyingly earthy notes of skunk, spice, and hash in there too. The fruitiness is the star of the show, however, staying on your tongue long after the smoke is gone.

Bag Appeal

Blue Dream

Every bit as alluring in appearance as in taste, Blue Dream offers dense clusters of bud that often turn blue if exposed to lower temperatures during growth. These are finished with a powdering of trichomes that elegantly coat the regal blue or neon green nugs. If this wasn’t enough, they also boast a sticky resinous texture and a sweet and skunky berry aroma to match the taste.

bud shot of thai stick strain

Thai Stick Strain Review

Keeping alive a classic that has been a firm favourite of many as far back as the 60’s and 70’s, MSNL have breathed new vitality into this veteran strain. They have achieved this with Thai Stick via their mix of Californian Skunk and Thai genetics to put a modern twist on the legend.

The Thai Stick of years gone by was best known for how it was presented – in small but thick and rich stems of cannabis that became its most distinct visual feature. MSNL now gives you the opportunity to recreate this iconic smoking experience after years of declining growth to the point where it is near impossible to find in many places today. If this sounds appealing then it might be time to take the plunge and try today’s take on the legendary strain.

Strength

Thai Stick

Traditionally Thai Stick was such a strong smoking experience that many believed these small green cylinders to be coated in hashish or even opium. Thankfully MSNL’s seeds allow you the chance to relive this classic ride free of suspected opiates for a pure and uplifting smoke.

The Thai Stick of decades past was considered to be a pure sativa, but this present variety by MSNL has a Skunk component that makes it a less traditionalist but more complex smoke. With a THC content of 15-18%, Thai Stick packs a punch but will keep you vertical with its energising properties courtesy of its strong sativa side.
Its sativa dominant genes also means Thai Stick has no trouble giving a clean and euphoric high. The purity of this is something rarely matched by other strains, offering a very sociable experience that will likely see you in fits of giggles. These powerful but comfortable effects also mean it is ideal as a mood enhancer, ending a bad day in a good way with a satisfied smile.

There is also an indica component here from its Skunk genetics, levelling out the heady effects with a physically relaxing element that can take the edge off the sometimes over-stimulating sativa side. The cerebral buzz still remains the star of the show here, however, providing a high that is positive, creative and focused. This makes it more enjoyable as a recreational than medicinal strain, with psychedelic experiences being far from uncommon too.
That is not to say it is ineffective medicinally, however, with its potency being useful in warding off fatigue, dealing with pain and stress, and combating the onset of depression.

Yield

Not one to short change a diligent grower, Thai Stick will reward proper cultivation with a yield between 300-400g per m2. While it may not be quite as heavy yielding as a minority of other strains, the quality of bud on offer here is sublime and its resinous properties will more than satisfy.

Speed

Thai Stick

One of the distinct aspects of the Thai Stick plant is its patient growth period, often taking up to 12-18 weeks from seed to flowering. As a strongly sativa strain the plant has a tall, slender and distinctly tropical look to it. Because of its extended growth period and size (sometimes reaching 180-220cm), Thai Stick will require certain living circumstances to be suitable for home cultivation.

Indoor growers may find this a challenging experience, with the plant responding best to the conditions found in the tropical outdoors. It is still possible to grow inside, but will require a degree of experience and resources beyond what most will have. This makes indoor Thai Stick growth best for seed production or as a pet project.

Outdoor growers will have an easier time, weather and climate permitting. The plant will need plenty of space and the right environment, with a 220cm tall plant easily attracting the wrong kind of attention. If you do decide to grow outdoors Thai Stick will ideally require a tropical or sub-tropical climate, though a generally warmer environment may also suffice. Greenhouses are very useful in achieving the right conditions, and providing the plant with sunlight and low to medium levels of soil nutrients also helps. Outdoors you will see the harvest ready in October, with its disease and pest resistant genetics helping the plant reach its potential.

Taste

Thai food is known for adventurously putting a blend of flavours into its food and Thai Stick proudly incorporates this tradition itself, offering a blend of flavours so rich in quality it puts lesser strains to shame.

It begins with an earthy taste that reveals sweeter citrusy notes of lemon and spice behind it. This is combined with a distinctive flavour that can only be attributed to the plant itself, and all comes together in a smooth tasting smoke for a truly luxurious experience.

Bag Appeal

Thai Stick

The scent of Thai Stick is much like the taste – complex, rich and enticing. There is a definite tropical element to the smell, mixed with a certain skunky note from its parent that rests in the bouquet without overpowering it. The buds themselves are dense and heavy, to such a degree that they often cause the plant stems to bend and droop beneath their weight.

While it may not come in the stick form of yesteryear, Thai Stick retains its allure decades on to make a smoke that still stands up to the powerhouse strains of today.
